We had another great meeting today.  Thanks for everyone who attended.

Welcome Bill Smallshaw to the group and it was great to see Daniele back as well.

We started off with an excellent presentation by Sam Bartlett on Reichsadler of the Kriegsmarine.  Sam shared the history of the German Navy use of the eagle or Reichsadler on their warships before and during the war.  Of particular interest was the only remaining example buried Uruguayan naval warehouse.  Hard to say what will happen to it but Sam's presentation caused me to look further.  Apparently somebody offered 3 million for the eagle bit it remains unsold.

It certainly is a unique piece of history that is worth paying attention to if you're building a model of this old pocket battleship of the Third Reich.

Next Roger gave a fabulous presentation on his trip to see the USS Texas.  Afterwards I felt like I had been there.  Now I want to go.  I particularly found the information about the ships' arrangement (Kitchens and mess arrangements) interest.  Also the discussion on the color was terrific.  It's amazing to see how different the colors of the ship are depending on angles and lighting.  I think we should spend more time talking about light modulation and how we should use it on our model ships. I have a very good book on this but it's based on armor modeling.  The same rules should apply but taking scale effect into consideration.

Sam also brought some nice books to share.  Of particular interest given today's discussion were the two books on German Naval Camouflage.  Both of these books are available on Amazon and from various suppliers that sell through theirs and Barnes & Nobel web sites.  As Sam said these are THE references to have.

John did not disappoint as usual.  Here are two of the three kits the kits he brought to the meeting.  I don't know how he finds these kits.  John, if you could shoot me the information on where you found these I'll post it for the group.  I know Modelkrak is sold at Free Time Hobbies but they don't have this kit.  I'm looking forward to John putting these together!

Update:  John provided the link to where he purchased these kits.

Bill brought a wonderful kit from an English company called Coastal Craft.  They make some wonderful 1/72 coastal forces ships of the highest quality.  The kits are constructed from resin and photo etch.  Thanks for bringing it Bill.  I'm hoping for a 77' Elco!

Here's a link to their web site.  Check it out.

We weren't able to get to everything today so we'll pick up at coming meetings.  I'll check when Rodrigo can join us to follow up on our discussion on cutting.  I know some of you took some cuts at what I brought but we'll do more.

I'm excited to see more of Roger's road trips to museum ships.  Next will be USS Kidd.  Here's a teaser from that collection.

Thanks again everyone.  I look forward to seeing you all next time.
Dave
